About Me

TLDR: I am Selcuk, 23 years ago spawn, living in Antalya, Turkey. Part time retailer (working on a Boutique as a salesman, manager) and part time developer. My products are Lesstock, FindAffiliate.

Before about me, you need to know who is my dad is. My dad started his own business in 2000. He was started as a laundry but he couldn't earn too much money. And he decided to sell socks, underwear, tanktop. He decided to leave the laundry business and continue to sell goods. It's been almost 25 years past, still he is doing this business. He has two stores.

When I started grow up I started stay on store more and more, learn how to things work in a store etc. After when I turn 16 (2017), I started working part time even while I was studying in high school. But one day, one of the my high school friend show me a program who he write it, I wanna know how to do that. So, I learn some basic coding with HTML, CSS and JavaScript with my little smartphone 😄

I want to do more but I didn't have any money to buy a laptop. So I saved up my salary from store and buy my first laptop, Lenovo Ideapad 17' version.

I learn coding from YouTube, FreeCodeCamp, my local Meetup and CS50. (2017 - 2020)

In 2020, something big happend. A Virus lockedowns everyone. That's means no more working as a retailer. I focus more about my software development journey, applied a lot of jobs and internships. No luck almost 1 year. Everything going bad, but this is life, gonna suprise me.

One person's action, changed hundreds of people's life

In December 2020, I was looking up Twitter (X) and someone share something about mentorship program. He wanna do mentorship to 2 person without no cost. He got a lot of response and he decided to create a project called Find Mentor. It's changed a lot of peoples life, especially mines. I met a lot of people, learn new development skills, and got a internship.

I moved from my home to this new internship job. It was a kinda diffirent experience, a small startup wanna do something big. I tried my best but didn't like it. After my three months, I finish my internship process and founder offer me a Frontend Development role, decided to reject it and go back to my home.

2021 June, after applied hundred of jobs, I found one. A Good company for me. We made a lot of good stuff, really good people. Moved back to city center for going to office sometimes. Everything going well, but this is life, gonna suprise me.

January 2022, everyday getting bored. Wanna do something, wanna create some product but i don't know how to create something or idea validation. My salary does not enough my lifestyle or my apartmant rent. Feeling depression. Turkish economy getting worse. Wanna raise but company cannot able to do too much stuff. So, I decided to moved back one of my friends house. Now, I am homeless.

Met a guy, now working on his project. He is cool guy. He said: "Bro I got a investment, they gonna invest us." Joining investment meetings, looks like it's gonna happen. But they wanna see the app fully working in summer. There is 2 months and our app cannot finish in that time if I work on it nights and weekends. Taking another bet and decided to quit my job and working on full time on this project. Money issues started, my partner sending some money, investers decided to not invest us. Now I am jobless and homeless. I don't wanna move back my family house because we are not good at that moment. Everything going bad, but this is life, gonna suprise me.

I started working with my first internship startup, not getting paid good but at least something. Staying there, working there. Learned depression, happiness, a lot of stuff there. But I have no idea about how this startup gonna be big but try my best. After one year I cannot pushing more. Gain almost 20 kg. Wanna move somewhere else. My ex roomate has a small apartman in another city, he said you can move there and stay in summer.

New City New Life

End of June 2023, 2 backpacks, one monitor. That's all I have in this life. Moved to 200 km away, new city, new people, new environment. Very small apartment but enough for me (1+0, 20m²). Feeling good after a year. Thank you to my ex roomate if he reading this 🙏.

First one month, clean up and organize my life. Started walking, losing weight, talking with my family more and meeting new people. It was really good experience. I met really awesome people there and my family and me getting better.

Going back Home

In end of August 2023. My father called me, he want me to comeback here. He said: "If you wanna build your own thing you can do it here as well, you wanna learn my business secret and more I will teach you". Think about it about 2 days. Man I need to do something about my life, I have not seen my siblings frequently in the last two years. Giving my decision, quiting my job and moving my family house. This time different, everything much smoother, maybe I am changed, maybe my family also changed but everyone much more calm and understand each other. Everything going well, but this is life, gonna suprise me.

Started working on my dad boutique, learned a lot of stuff about business and problems. There were some problems about inventory and finance records. Talked about it with some of my dad's friends also boutique owners, they have also same problems. I started working on a solution, a digital one, a software one. Lesstock born, I created an inventory management software in 4 months from scratch. I wanna help my dad and other business. And if I get some money from this business I can create more features and solve much more problems.

March 2024, only one time getting paid but that customer made that payment mistakenly, I tried to contact and even wanna refund him/her but never reach me back. My dad didn't like my system because it's not easy to implement it. I felt the failure again, didn't wanna work on it anymore. Focus on my boutique business, working every day there. Everything going bad, but this is life, gonna suprise me.

May 2024, I created a very basic finance app for sales. I created it for myself to keep a record of every single sale in that app so I can see in graphs and see which product is most selling or which date in the week is the lowest/highest revenue. That was my moral, I didn't even care about selling this software or showing my dad. Anyway, some of the boutique owner noticed it and told them about my software, they asked me to how can I use it, created them accounts. They liked it, asked more features, I developed them. My dad hear that and wanna use it. He also liked it, asked more features. Everything going well, but this is life, gonna suprise me.

Future Of Lesstock

And Today 18 November 2024. I draw a triangle and write this 3 features: sales, suppliers, stock.

Sales feature already done, 4 businesses using it, I am working on Supplier feature right now, when I complete that I will connect my Stock feature all together.

I been writing almost every day but never sharing. Today I decided to share it. Not just today but every day to share something. It can be short or long, good or bad. Life has it's ups and downs.
